Start an ATM Business
Want to Start an ATM Business?
We'll help you understand the equipment, processing, costs, and revenue model before you request your first machine.
What to Understand Before You Start
Equipment
Choosing a machine that fits your first location.
Processing
How per-transaction pricing and settlement work.
Surcharge revenue
How the withdrawal fee that funds your revenue actually works.
Ongoing costs
Connectivity, paper, and cash-loading considerations.
No guaranteed income
ATM revenue depends on transaction volume and your surcharge, neither of which is guaranteed. Use the calculator below with your own assumptions, not promised numbers.
Estimate Your Numbers
Every default here is how an independent ATM placement actually runs, not a sales pitch. Change anything to model your own situation — or pick a starting scenario:
Revenue
Typical independent machine after ramp-up: 250–400. Busy bars exceed 600. Dispensaries can pass 1,500.
US average operator surcharge: $3.22. Nightlife/tourist venues run $4–$5.
Almost always a flat per-transaction amount, not a percentage. Most bars, stores, and shops land between $0.25 and $0.75. Around $1 is dispensaries and casino-type locations.
Processing
Market range is roughly $0.04–$0.25 per transaction depending on term and volume — negotiate this first. Blueprint's published per-transaction rates are on the Pricing page.
Switch/network pass-throughs, if your processor bills them separately.
Cash & connectivity
A $60–$70 box of receipt paper lasts most operators a year; clean the card reader every couple of months.
One-time investment
Blueprint's current new-machine pricing runs roughly $2,500–$7,700 depending on capacity and cabinet type — see current pricing on the ATM Machines page.
Real starting floats: convenience store ~$800 · barbershop ~$1,000 · nightclub ~$1,600 · dispensary $4,000–$5,000. Weekly loading keeps floats small. This is your money, not an expense — it cycles back.

Is ATM ownership guaranteed to make money?
No. Revenue depends on transaction volume and your surcharge amount, neither of which is guaranteed. Use the revenue calculator with your own assumptions rather than relying on example numbers.
How many machines do I need to start?
Most people starting an ATM business begin with a single machine at one location, then add more once they understand the traffic and upkeep involved. There is no required minimum.
What internet or connectivity does an ATM need?
A wired Ethernet (CAT5) line or a cellular/wireless data plan compatible with the machine. If your location doesn’t have either readily available, mention it when you talk to a specialist so connectivity can be confirmed before you buy.
Who loads cash into the ATM, and does Blueprint provide it?
You (or whoever operates the machine) are responsible for loading and replenishing cash. Blueprint does not provide vault cash as a service — budget for cash loading as an ongoing operating cost, not a one-time setup expense.
How do I decide what surcharge to charge?
There’s no fixed number that’s right everywhere — surcharge amounts vary by market, location type, and what nearby machines already charge. Use the revenue calculator with your own local assumptions rather than a generic example, and check comparable machines near your location before you set yours.
